Karen D. Smallwood, known by family and friends as "Deborah," hails from York, Pennsylvania, where she was raised in a bustling household with her mother, father, and four siblings, instilling in her the values of hard work and education from a young age. Graduating from William Penn Senior High School, she pursued her passion for teaching by earning a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from York College of Pennsylvania, followed by a Master's in School Leadership from Grand Canyon University. Currently serving as Principal at the Jackson Pre-K-8 building, Karen is dedicated to fostering a nurturing environment for students to excel. Actively pursuing a Doctorate in Educational Leadership at Bowie State University, she remains committed to expanding her expertise and advocating for equity and inclusion in education.
